Soft Leather Fishtail Collars for Whippets, Greyhounds & Lurchers

These handcrafted leather fishtail collars are designed specifically for sighthounds. With their
long, slim necks and sensitive skin, breeds like Whippets, Greyhounds, Italian Greyhounds
and Lurchers benefit from wide collars that are both gentle and secure. Each leather collar in
our collection is padded for comfort and protection from injury, combining timeless style with
practicality and peace of mind.

Why Do Sighthounds Need Special Collars

Sighthounds have delicate necks, a unique body structure, and often a high prey drive, which can make standard dog collars unsuitable. That’s why fishtail collars which widened at the centre are a popular, vet-recommended choice.

They:

  • Distribute pressure evenly across the neck

  • Reduce the risk of injury to the windpipe

  • Help prevent slipping or backing out

For escape artists, nervous rescues, or flight risks, we recommend using a Martingale Collar for added safety.

Features of Our Leather Fishtail Collars

Premium Materials

Handcrafted from high-quality genuine leather, our collars are built to last and soften beautifully with age. Choose from Simple leather for a classic, minimalist design or coloured and stitched leather for unique and embellished styles.

Padded Lining

Each collar features soft padding for added comfort, helping to cushion against sudden movement while on the lead and minimise fur rubbing and hair loss common with harder collars.

The Shape

The fishtail shape helps to prevent slipping, while the broad surface distributes pressure evenly to protect your dog’s windpipe.

Sighthound-Specific Sizing

Our collars are tailored for slim-necked, deep-chested breeds starting from Italian Greyhound sizes. Use our sizing guide found in the product images to find the perfect fit.

What is a fishtail collar?
Can Lurchers and Greyhounds wear
regular dog collars?
Should I attach my dogs ID tag
to their leather collar?

A fishtail collar is specially designed for sighthounds with narrow heads and long, delicate necks.

A fishtail collar has a unique shape with a widening in the central section and narrower at the buckle. Fishtail collars are commonly thought of as a traditional greyhound collar.

It’s not recommended. Slim collars can cause injury due to the breed’s anatomy and prey drive.

Wide, padded collars distribute pressure safely. For extra security, especially for nervous or new rescues, consider a Martingale collar.

We recommend using a House or ID Collar for ID tags. Fishtail collars are designed for walks and sit higher on the neck, so a lightweight house collar worn at all times provides extra safety and peace of mind.

Use a soft tape measure around the top of your dog’s neck, where the collar will sit. Refer to the sizing chart in the product images to choose the right fit.

An XXL size is coming soon for larger Greyhounds.

Every dog is unique. Many Lurchers wear leather fishtail collars successfully. However, for dogs with high prey drive or anxiety, we recommend a Martingale Collar for additional safety.

This design tightens slightly if the dog pulls, helping prevent escape.
